Herschel Lee Croy

Life Defined By Love For Family & Community And Hard Word

  • Thursday, July 31, 2025
Mr. Herschel Lee Croy, age 76, of Resaca, GA, departed this life on Friday, July 25, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by the family he cherished deeply.

Born on Jan. 5, 1949, in Chattooga County, Georgia, Herschel was the beloved son of the late Allen Lester Croy, Sr., and the late Ada Katherine Thompson McQuire and Milton McQuire. He was also preceded in death by his son and daughters-in-law, James and Tina Croy and Amy Croy; his in-laws, Cecil Earl and Ethel Mae Johns Allmon; his sister, Barbara (Mickey) Gross; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jerry Shaw, Pat Allmon, Clifford Eugene Allmon, Larry Paul Allmon, Judy Allmon, and Bonnie Allmon, and nephew, Eddie Gentry and J.R. Gentry.

Herschel’s life was defined by love—love for his family, his community, and for hard work. A self-taught musician with a passion for country music, he found joy in playing the guitar and singing. He was known for his generosity and ability to help others, whether through music, mentorship, or simply lending a hand. Despite only holding a GED, Herschel’s strong work ethic led him to a successful career as a plant supervisor and manager at World Carpet and Aquafill USA. His hands were rarely still—he was a master mechanic who could fix anything, and he worked tirelessly to support his family, even during difficult times.

He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Linda Sue Croy, with whom he would have celebrated a milestone anniversary on Oct. 7, 2025. Herschel leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience in his son, Mark Croy, and Jennifer Mitchell of Calhoun, GA; grandchildren, Ashley and Storm Young, Matthew and Holly McHugh, Nicole Lynn Croy, Amanda Gail and Cody Parker, Beverly Diane and Bud Phillips, Joshua and Tiffany Croy, Cassandra Lee Croy, T.J. and Joy Lamasters; and great-grandchildren, Storm Blade Young, Kobe Jermaine Young, Nova Marlene Young, Walker James Croy and Lyra Croy.

He is also survived by his brothers, Jimmy and Janice Croy of Henagar, AL, and Robert Croy of Missouri, along with Tommy McQuire and Billy McQuire of Summerville, GA; sisters, Ethel and Ted Deberry of Summerville, GA; nieces, Wanda, Debbie and Jamie Gentry; nephews, Johnny Gentry, and Terry Wayne Gentry; other numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly. Special family friends include Julie and Greg Watson, Sandy and Roger Miller and Ralph Stansell.

A service to celebrate the extraordinary life of Mr. Herschel Lee Croy will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Ponders Calhoun Chapel with Reverend Matthew McHugh officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved son at Chandler Cemetery. Herschel’s family and close friends will honor him by serving as pallbearers.
