Marlene Lanier Gamblin, 94, of East Ridge, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

Marlene was a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church and had served in many different roles within the church. She was born Sept. 13, 1930 in Summerville, Georgia to Leo Lanier, Sr. and Fannie Lunsford Lanier. Marlene married George “Tom” Gamblin in 1950 and they lived in Lafayette, Ga. for several years before moving to Chattanooga in 1957. Tom and Marlene enjoyed their cabin at Wolftever Fishing Club.

Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; two sons, Mark Lanier Gamblin and Jay Thomas Gamblin; grandson, Thomas Craig Gamblin; brother, Leo Lanier, Jr.; and a sister, Rene Stephenson.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Cindy Gamblin; and a sister, Reita Lanier.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs of Adoration Hospice and Lifecare of East Ridge for the excellent care given to Marlene.

A celebration of Marlene’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, with the Rev. Will Vest officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
