Michael Sutton Named President Of CHI Memorial Medical Group And Mountain Management Services

CHI Memorial announces Michael Sutton as the president of CHI Medical Group and Mountain Management Services. His appointment follows the retirement of Glyn Hughes.

Mr. Sutton has almost 30 years of healthcare leadership experience, having worked his way up the finance ladder at CHI Memorial with positions spanning from manager of cost and reimbursement to market vice president of finance.  Prior to his leadership roles at CHI Memorial, he served as director of reimbursement for Health Corp of Tennessee and senior auditor for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.

"Michael has cultivated exceptional knowledge in finance and all components of  healthcare through his executive role," officials said.
"He has significant experience in performance improvement and health system operations and has been instrumental in nearly every significant strategic initiative for CHI Memorial.

"During his 21 year tenure at CHI Memorial, notable achievements include serving as an executive leader on the master facility project, playing a key role in navigating the organization during the Great Recession and the COVID pandemic, collaborating with payors to achieve increases in reimbursement rates and leading many performance improvement efforts resulting in multi-million dollars in year-over-year improvements. 

"Building lasting relationships is the foundation of Mr. Sutton’s vision to achieve a growing and diversified health care ministry distinguished by excellent quality medical care that exceeds patient expectations. He has supported mission strategies, the expansion of neuro services and cardiac co-management.  He has been heavily involved in the Clinically Integrated Network to focus on quality and value-based pricing, as well as advising on nearly every physician and group contract."

Mr. Sutton holds a master of business administration, accounting degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee.  He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and Healthcare Financial Management Association.
