Election Day Observations - And Response

Saturday, August 6, 2022

Congratulations to all the winners in Thursday's election. And also thanks to all who ran, it takes a lot of courage to enter the arena of politics.

I didn't vote for Weston in the primary but I certainly did in the general election. I think he will do a wonderful job. Sabrena, I voted for you but I would imagine your career is over after one of the dumbest political stunts I have seen. There is nothing illegal about voters crossing political lines to vote in the primary. If Republicans don't like it we control the governor's office and have overwhelming majorities in the House and Senate, so change the law.

I did vote for Coty in the primary and general election. John Allen Brooks we don't want a DA who represents all of the people in the county, but one who represents all the law abiding citizens in the county.

Austin Garrett is our new sheriff and I'm sure will do an excellent job following in Sheriff Hammond's footsteps. Rather strange after all the caterwauling from the professional victims like Brenda, BLM, the NAACP and the, "concerned," black clergy they couldn't find one person to run against Mr. Garrett. I would say the over/under on how many days before the first complaint against the new sheriff is 30 days.

The candidate who impressed me the most was now Judge elect Mike Dumitru. He is a young man with an unlimited future. And speaking of judges, best wishes to Judge Don Poole who retires at the end of this month. He is a man of impeccable character and integrity.

Finally, I agree with Senator Todd Gardenhire on the stadium issue. As I have opined before it's hard to be against any project that gets rid of the eyesore on 24 coming into the city. However our younger citizens are looking at a 30 year commitment from the city and county. I personally would like to see the Lookout organization with a little more skin in the game as we used to say in the mortgage business.

For all of the negative people, we live in a pretty nice place. If you think Hamilton has problems I would suggest you move to a county run entirely by Democrats like Fulton and DeKalb in Georgia. I know, I lived there for 25 years.

Wow! Douglas! You referring to "this" Brenda?

Are you already implying or suggesting Austin Garrett, the newly elected sheriff (of which I voted for) won't be serving all the people of Hamilton County? That he will serve only a select few? Friends, relatives, neighbors..............whatever.

Isn't it the position of any elected official in such an important capacity to serve "all" the people, even those who aren't always "law abiding", if only to make sure their rights aren't violated? That they are treated fairly and not abused under such an elected person's watch? Are you suggesting Austin Garrett will be controlled by the powers that be to carry out their biddings rather than being in control? Well darn it, Douglas you just threw an unintentional wrench into the position of our newly elected sheriff (sad face), an individual I've watched and thought he'd make an honorable and decent sheriff who'd serve all the people, and not just people like "you."

By the way, Doug, I have no ties, personal or otherwise, to any of the local or national groups you mentioned. I don't run in their circles and they don't run in mine. Jeez.

Aristotle once said, "The only stable state is the one in which all men (generic/women included) are equal before the law." ~~Politics

Hopefully, our newly elected Sheriff Garrett with honor his new position by keeping the wise words of Aristotle in mind.
