William “Bill” Howard Westmoreland, 74, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on his birthday, on Monday, August 29, 2022.
He was born in Chattanooga, to the late Osley and Enza Sanders Westmoreland. He had resided in Decatur, Tn., for the past 20 years, where he attended Cottonport Church of God. He was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Red Bank, Tn., and Lakeway Baptist Church in Harrison, where he served at both churches. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from National Print Group where he worked for 42 years and served as plant manager. Bill enjoyed bowling, golfing, reading and opened his home up to 27 foster children while he and his wife Judy served as foster parents for eight years. He was a devoted husband, father, granddaddy, brother, uncle and friend to many. Bill or “Granddaddy” as he was lovingly referred to by many, never met a stranger. To know him was to love him. He displayed the love of God in everything he did and his desire to show Christ’s Love touched everyone he met. He will be remembered for his gentle and kind spirit, the ability to make everyone feel special and loved and his positive outlook on life.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years: Judy Hughes Westmoreland, daughter: Christy Lee, grandson: William Alexander, infant brother, sisters: Sue Hankins, Patricia Baggett and brother: Charles Westmoreland.
He is survived by his daughters: Tamara McCoy, Rachel Westmoreland both of Decatur, Tn., Amelia (Andrew) Crowder military stationed RAF Milden Hall, England, son: Shawn Westmoreland of Decatur, grandchildren: Blake (Emily) Westmoreland, Rachel, Gracie, Kimberly, Faith, Jacob, Araina and Azrael, great-grandchildren: Letty, Levi and Lily, several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday after 10 a.m. prior to the service.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, in the chapel with Dr, Jim Kennard officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park – Red Bank, Tn.
