Alvin Eugene “Gene” Roberts, owner of Art Glass of Chattanooga for 47 years passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023.

He loved the stained glass craft and made many exceptional pieces over the years. He loved to tell people “It all started with a fishing trip.” After meeting the former owner and that memorable fishing trip, he worked for him and learned the craft. He purchased the business in 1976 and became the most well-known and sought after artisan in the city. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. He loved his craft, and he loved his girls, and he did it well.

He was baptized at East Ridge Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joe Ann Roberts; his mother Amy Roberts; father Roy Roberts; sister Rebecca Davis; brother Glenn Roberts.

Survivors include his sister Sue Morton of Knoxville; two daughters Debbie (Don) Sapp and Glenda (Donny) Giles; two grandchildren Ashley Wheeler and Amy Kiker; three grandchildren, Sophie Wheeler, Sawyer Wheeler, and Aaron Bryson; several nieces and nephews.
