Hundreds gathered at the Watts Bar Dam Wednesday evening to enjoy the Pinta make its way down the Tennessee River and through the lock.
The Pinta Columbus Replica Ship is a larger version of the archetypal caravel ship that Columbus used on his voyages into the Americas. She is a floating museum that visits ports throughout the Western Hemisphere.
Her travels are funded entirely through fees paid for walk aboard tours. Tour schedule can be found at Ninapinta.org or on their Facebook page “Nina & Pinta Caravels”.
The Pinta is navigating the Tennessee River via the TVA owned and U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District operated navigation locks, with a stop in Lenoir City Ft. Loudon Marina Oct 13-17, Knoxville Calhoun on the River Oct. 20-29 and Chattanooga Pier Nov. 3-19.
