Clemmie Lee Abrams, 99, passed away on September 29, 2023, in Chattanooga.

“Peace Be Upon Him”

Clem, as he is called, was born on June 5, 1924, to the beloved mother, Mary Emma Red in Russell County, Al., where he attended elementary school. He was reared by his mother and stepfather, Jessy Abrams in Opelika, Lee County, Al. Clem was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ocie “Bo” Williams.

Clem lived in Chattanooga for more than 67 years. During this time, he supported little league baseball throughout the city, enjoyed fishing, bowling and watching the Atlanta Braves baseball games and other sports. His greatest and fondest hobby was being an entrepreneur of a candy store he operated from his kitchen for over 45 years. He got much joy out of teaching the children how to count money and watching them grow into young adults. Clem retired from the Erlinburg Company, a jewelry maker, after working many years in the stone setting department.

Clem leaves behind his immediate family: wife, Betty L. Hickey Abrams and son Donnell Abrams in Chattanooga, TN; daughter Barbara “Dean” Abrams Mitchell, Opelika; son, Billy (Carolyn) Abrams, Auburn, AL and step-daughter, Mary “Jeannette” Tyner, Chattanooga; brother-in-law, Edward “Glenn” (Betty) Hickey, Sr., Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Eleanor Williams, Loachapoka, Al.; Two aunts – Lillian Brooks and Evelyn Torrey of Chattanooga.

He has four grandchildren - Andrya R. Johnson, Opelika, AL; Trency Montgomery, Bronx, NY; Taran T. Abrams, Toledo, OH; and Daman D. Abrams, Auburn, AL; 14 great grandchildren - Martavious (Bethany) Johnson, Auburn, AL; twins Kendra and Kimber Johnson of Opelika, AL; Daylee N. Abrams, Jayla L Abrams, Paiyton Corley, Trinity Abrams, Iyanah Harris, and Nova Abrams, all of Columbia, SC; Tariq Abrams, twins Arielle and Arion Abrams of Toledo, OH; Blessing and Michael Hightower of Bronx, NY; three great-great-grand-children - Jayden Johnson, Madasyn Johnson, Kyle Mason Johnson of Auburn, AL; Nieces and Nephews – David Lee Williams, Patricia Williams, Eugene Williams of Cleveland, OH; Azar Williams, Chicago, IL; Corey Williams and Tierra Williams of Loachapoka, AL; Edward “Glenn” Hickey, Jr. and Brittney Hickey of Atlanta, GA; a host of cousins, grand and great grand nieces and nephews.

The family will cherish memories of your positive energy, your warm and caring heart, your broad smile, your voice and tone, your hearty laughter and your giving spirit.

No public funeral service will be held.
