Mary Jo Arendale passed away peacefully on October 28, 2023, in Hixson, Tennessee, at the age of 92.

She was born in Chattanooga on November 16, 1930. She graduated from Chattanooga City High School and worked for over 30 years at the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant and then at First Tennessee Bank.

She was the devoted wife of Herman C. Arendale for more than 57 years until his death in 2011. She was an active member of Hixson Church of Christ and later Mountain Creek Church of Christ. She taught children’s classes, participated in the Ladies’ Bible Class, and prepared meals for families in need. She loved her Lord and her church family.

She was an avid sports fan, and especially loved following her Atlanta Braves baseball teams, Tennessee Vols football teams and her grandson’s Chattanooga Mocs and South Carolina Gamecocks men’s basketball teams.

She loved her family and reminded them of that constantly. She was a big part of each one of their lives and her absence leaves a great void.

Jo is survived by her three children, Debbie (Steve) Crowe, of Chickamauga, Georgia, David (Cindi) Arendale of Hixson, and Daryl (Lina) Arendale of Hixson, as well as her grandchildren Wesley Crowe, Allison Woodard, Madison (Jeremy) Mehaffey, Brady Arendale, Colby (Kaitlyn) Arendale, and Carrie Arendale, and great-grandchildren Maddox and Zachary Mehaffey and Claire Woodard.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, in the funeral home chapel with Minister Gary Massey officiating.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, Nov. 3, from 4-7 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to funeral service in the chapel.

The family is grateful to the staff of Morning Pointe – Hixson for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, Jo has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Tennessee Children’s Home (Spring Hill, Tn.) or Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home (Lee Hwy – Chattanooga.)

Arrangements are by Hamilton Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 4506 Hixson Pike at Hamill Road, Hixson, Tn. 37343, 423 531-3975.
