Held Long Career With South Central Bell And Was Avid Civil War Historian

Robert Thomas, 89, of Chickamauga, GA, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

He was born on October 5, 1935, and was employed by South Central Bell for 39 years. Robert was an avid Civil War historian and sharing his knowledge with others. The love of his life was his wife of 63 years, Sue Thomas and his pride and joy was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Robert was a longtime member of Elizabeth Lee Methodist Church in Chickamauga, Ga.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, William Ira Thomas and Edith Laycock; and his sister, Colleen Kilgore.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Thomas; his sons, Scott (Tammy) Thomas and Jeff (Kim) Thomas; his five grandchildren, Kristina Thomas, Rachel Thomas, Bailee (Nick) Jackson, Morgan Thomas, and Christopher (Jamee) Thomas; his great-grandchildren, Oaklee Jackson, Mylee Jackson, and Oliver Jackson; his sister, Mona (James) Skidmore; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home in Rossville, GA, with Pastor Zack Fitzpatrick officiating. A burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens South in Rossville.
