The Mocs got back on track after the team suffered its first loss of the season last Sunday against Marshall, as UTC traveled to reigning Ohio Valley Conference Tournament champions Tennessee Tech on Wednesday. Chattanooga steamrolled the Golden Eagles, earning a hard-fought 70-45 victory over Tech. The win marked program’s first-ever road win over Tenneseee Tech, as well as the team’s third win of the 2023-24 season.
The Cavaliers have opened their season with a .500 start through two games, as UVA Wise came away with a 69-64 overtime victory over Clayton State in the team’s season-opener before falling 68-56 to Flagler College the following day in a neutral site matchup. The Cavaliers will be looking to use their strong rebounding presence against the Mocs, as UVA Wise currently averages 48.5 rebounds/game this season. UTC will also need to remove leading-scorer Sarah Burton from the equation, as Burton is currently averaging 13.5 points/game through the opening two games of the season for the Cavs.
This marks the first time that UTC and UVA Wise have ever met on the women’s basketball court. The Chattanooga men’s basketball team, however, has played against the Cavaliers once before back in 2004. The Mocs would win that matchup 102-46 over the Cavs.
