Mocs Volleyball Signs Louisiana Tech Hitter

  • Monday, February 6, 2023
The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team and head coach Julie Torbett have added Louisiana Tech outside hitting transfer Chard'e Vanzandt to the upcoming 2023 roster, the program announced on Monday.

Vanzandt comes to the Scenic City after completing her sophomore season with the Lady Techsters in 2022. She is immediately eligible with two years remaining.

"We are thrilled to have Chard'e join the team this spring," said coach Torbett. "She was a standout player and won a conference championship at Blinn [JC] before transferring to Louisiana Tech where she was a starter on the right side.

"She is a gifted athlete who has played every position in the front row.
I feel she will be instrumental in taking the program to the next level and I am excited to begin working with her in the gym this spring."

Vanzandt spent her first season in the collegiate landscape at Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas, where she was an offensive standout that helped the Buccaneers to a 39-4 overall record and a Region XIV championship.

She finished the season at Blinn JC with 395 total kills (2.84/set) at a .316 hitting percentage and added 62.0 total blocks while finishing second on the team with 429.5 points scored. She recorded at least four kills in 42 matches played and totaled 17 matches with 10 or more kills with three of the performances coming in postseason action.

During her 2022 season at LA Tech, Vanzandt finished third on the team in kills (184) and fourth in total blocks (32.0) while appearing in all 29 matches (17 starts) during the season. She recorded at least one kill in every match and registered six matches with 12 or more kills.

Chattanooga continues training during the spring season over the next few weeks in preparation of the upcoming 2023 fall season. Coach Torbett was featured on a recent Mocs on the Mic, presented by SmartBank, podcast episode to give an update inside the program and can be found HERE.
