Glenda F. Clayton, 76, of Chattanooga, departed for heaven on Friday, March 17, 2023. She is now experiencing what she lived and served for her whole life.

She loved her family unconditionally and served her Lord unwaveringly.

She retired from the Chattanooga Times Free Press with almost 30 years of service as assistant cafeteria manager the majority of her time there and was a longstanding member of Lupton Drive Baptist Church. She was blessed with a servant’s heart and loved serving people and caring for their needs, whether it was sending a card, making a phone call, or fixing a meal or baked goods to help someone and brighten their day. If you were her friend, you were more family than friend! That is just how she loved. She loved singing at church as much as she loved anything and always had a song on her lips. She set the example before us all of what it was to be a Servant of Christ and that Servant’s heart that she was blessed with touched so many lives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin D. Clayton, father, Jessie B. Jones, mother, Clarice Walker Jones, and sisters, Theresa Stevens, Mary Jo Moser, Sonja Anderson, and Ateka Jones.

Survivors include sons, Christopher Clayton (Dana), Michael Clayton (Michelle), daughter Kimberly Clayton, grandchildren Savannah Hicks (Brent), Jacob Clayton, Allison Clayton, Brandon Chord, Paige Hogsed, and many loved nieces and nephews.

We would like to express our gratitude to all the Physicians, Physician’s Assistants, hospital nurses and Parkridge Hospital staff who cared for her throughout her battle. Especially the Parkridge Outpatient Chemo Lab Nurse, Leslie Whittenburg, who was more than a nurse. She became a friend and cared for Mom and the other patients above and beyond what was required.

Visitation will be held at Lupton Drive Baptist Church on Monday, March 20, from 4-8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, March 21, at Lupton Drive Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until a 12 p.m. chapel service time. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens South in Rossville.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hamilton Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343, 423 531-3975.
