Eddie Milton Payne
Eddie Milton Payne, age 78, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away Monday February 27, 2023 at Hamilton Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Lush and Nellie Payne and was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Powell Payne and a sister, Shirley Fortner.
Eddie was a member of Carolyn Baptist Church.
Eddie was a fun-loving husband, dad, and grandad. He loved swimming, biking, hiking and anything outdoors. He was a public servant who volunteered with The Whitfield County Fire department for 25 years. He was said to have beaten the fire trucks to the scene quite often, earning the nickname "Fast Eddie". There was never a day spent with him without laughter and fun.
He is survived by his son, Michael Payne and daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and John Rockholt all of Dalton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Dan Yarbrough and WillaMae and Steve Lathan; brother and sister-in-law, William and Patricia Payne; grandchildren, Mallory Payne, Madilyn Payne, Brendie Rockholt, Jay Rockholt, David Rockholt, Emily Rockholt, Choe Rockholt, Levi Rockholt and Kyric Rockholt; nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Luegene Imms and Annie Williams.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 4, at 3 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Dr. Duane Mills officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, March 4, from 1 p.m. until the funeral time at 3 p.m.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
