The Chattanooga Mocs beach volleyball team suffered a pair of losses to UT Martin and EKU on the opening day of the Scenic City Showdown on Friday at the UTC Sports Complex Sand Courts.
Chattanooga falls to 8-7 overall and 4-2 within OVC play after the league loss to UT Martin. UTM improved to 13-6 overall and claimed a two-match lead over UTC in the OVC standings at 6-0. EKU improved to 12-8 on the season after the win.
In the morning match against UT Martin, Chattanooga suffered a 5-0 defeat to the current OVC-leading Skyhawks.
UT Martin (6-0) moved two matches ahead of UTC (4-2) at the top of the regular season standings after the victory.
In the nightcap against EKU, the No. 5 duo of
Kaye Gresham and
Madelina Myers-Osband provided 21-16, 21-19 victory to allow for a 1-1 tie ahead of the final three pairings. While EKU had the match clinched 3-1, the duo of
McKenna Faychak and
Maddie Lecik posted a hard-earned 21-19, 16-21, 15-11 victory to account for the team's second point.
Chattanooga returns to action tomorrow to close out the Scenic City Showdown with two more matches. The Mocs will face Liberty at 1 p.m. ET before squaring off against Carson-Newman at 5 p.m. ET in the finale.
