Jamie LeAnn Johnston, 42, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, in Birmingham, Alabama, where she was receiving care following a liver transplant.

A resident of Hixson, Jamie taught at Ganns Elementary School and continued as it transitioned to Middle Valley Elementary school where she touched countless lives throughout her teaching career.

Jamie was preceded in death by her parents, Ronnie and Eva Jo Smith, and niece and nephew, Kylie and Wyatt Rollins.

Survivors include her husband of 12 years, Anthony Johnston and son, Parker Johnston, both of Hixson; sister, Regina, brothers, Ron, Chris, and Gerald Smith, all of Hixson; Mother In Love Sharon Johnston; Aunts Jarenda Stubblefield, Renee Delashmitt, and Rhonda Smith; Sister In Love Amanda (Daniel) Winn; “Bestie” Jennifer (Stephen) Fields; six nephews and a niece; and friends too numerous to count.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, April 27, from 5-8 p.m. and Friday, April 28, from 4-6 p.m. with service to follow at Grace Church of the Nazarene, 6310 Dayton Boulevard, Hixson.

The family wishes to thank friends and family for their continuous outpouring of support over the previous weeks as Jamie endured her medical treatments away from home and graciously accept these contributions in lieu of flowers. Additional donations may be made to either Legacy of Hope (Alabama’s Organ and Tissue Alliance) or Grace Church of the Nazarene in Jamie’s honor.
