A 100-year-old building that was originally a 781-square-foot house at 118 Cross Street will be reopened as a restaurant.

A restaurant has been at that location for the last 20 years, most recently The Big Table. Old Man Rivers Table & Tavern, a new restaurant, will be opening there, said Alexander Rivers II, the newest owner of the building.

He has been renovating the restaurant and it now has a seating capacity of 40 with total capacity for 43 when employees are included. There will be seven tables and a six-person bar.

Mr. Rivers said he has been a long-time bartender in Chattanooga, and that he and his chief will be there every hour it is open. They both are certified to serve alcohol by the TABC and both alcohol and beer will be sold after receiving a beer license Thursday morning. The food served will be “elevated Southern cuisine,” and will be prepared with no deep frying, said Mr. Rivers.

The location is between Mountain Creek and Signal Mountain Roads near Merv's.
