Sanford M. Miller
Sanford M. Miller known to everyone as Butch went home to be with his loved ones who had journeyed before him Saturday, May 27, 2023.
He was born to Elmer G. and Ruth G. Roy Miller in Chattanooga on March 31, 1948.
Butch didn't have a job title to speak of as complications from his birth meant he'd be a professional innocent. He loved watching westerns, Mister Ed, Andy Griffith, Judge Judy, and Sponge Bob. His favorite foods were fried chicken and chocolate. He enjoyed the company of animals, especially cats and dogs. Most of all, Butch loved his cousins, his church family, and his Orange Grove family that survives him.
Butch was named after his uncle, Sanford Roy who was lost in Germany during WWII. Butch incidentally shared a birthday with Sanford, and it later turned out Butch shared something else with him as well. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency contacted the family about DNA samples to help identify Sanford's remains should they be found. Butch contributed his DNA as he was the only traceable family member who would have the same mitochondrial DNA as Sanford. Thus with Butch's help we may one day finally give our family hero a proper burial.
Butch had a kind and easy going spirit, and a sparkle in his eyes that could cheer you up. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Visitation will be held at Hamilton Funeral Home on Thursday, June 1, from 4-6 p.m. and continue on Friday, June 2, from 12-1 p.m. A graveside service will follow at The Beautiful Greenwood Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his momma and daddy.
If anyone wishes to make a gift of condolences, the family request that instead of flowers a memorial contribution be made to Orange Grove (615 Derby St Chattanooga, TN 37404) so they can continue their work in these difficult times.
"You tell them I was thinking about them" -Butch Miller
