Morning Pointe Of Athens’ Mastering Memory Golf Tournament Raises $17,000 For Student Scholarships

Morning Pointe of Athens Assisted Living raised a record $17,000 at its Fifth Annual Mastering Memory Care Golf Tournament to support clinical scholarships through the Morning Pointe Foundation.

The June 28th event at the Springbrook Golf & Country Club in Niota also saw a record 26 sponsors. Teams enjoyed a fun 18 holes of golf followed by an awards luncheon.

The Starr Regional Medical Center team came in first place, including members David Santoemma, Justin Coffman, Dr.
Derek Slack and Brent Jarvis. Chuck Liner’s team came in second, with members Chuck Liner, Glenn Wear, Jason Housley and Dennis Hicks. And third place went to the Midlab, Inc., team, which included members Cody Housley, Vance Lowe, Rob Thress and Matt Schenk.

The tournament will benefit the Morning Pointe Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Golf tournament proceeds specifically assist with clinical scholarships. The Foundation partners with a several community colleges and universities locally, including Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) in Athens and in Jacksboro and Chattanooga State Community College.

"Special thanks to Presenting Sponsor Citizens National Bank," officials said. "The tournament also benefitted from Cart Sponsor ETPS; Putt-Off Sponsors Midlab, Inc. and Hearth Hospice; Marketing Signage Sponsor In Good Health; and Tee Box and Game Sponsor Sweetwater Hospital Association. Team sponsors included several other local businesses.

“We had such a great show of support this year for such a great cause,” said Crystal Sutton, executive director at Morning Pointe of Athens and tournament organizer. “We broke our previous records for participation and monies raised, and we had perfect weather. Thank you to everyone who made this event happen and has helped local students to be able to afford to pursue their education.”

Last year’s tournament raised $12,000.
