Chattanooga volleyball fell in a 3-0 sweep against Southern Conference foe Wofford at Maclellan Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
The Mocs (11-5, 0-2 SoCon) faced off against a talented Terrier team (11-2, 2-0 SoCon) that controlled most of the match to hand UTC their second conference loss of the weekend. Chattanooga will now look to bounce back this coming weekend with road matchups against ETSU and UNCG.
To open the match, the Mocs put up their hardest fight in the first set as both teams fought for the early lead in the match.
Despite UTC’s nest efforts, the Terriers were able to squeak out a 25-23 win in set one to jump ahead 1-0 on the Mocs.
From that point, Wofford controlled much of the remaining two sets as the Terriers’ serving proved a pivotal factor in the match’s result. Wofford would finish with eight aces as a team compared to UTC’s three, while the Mocs logged seven service errors while the Terriers had only one.
Wofford would grab a convincing 25-16 win in set two before closing out the match with a 25-18 set win in the third to secure the sweep over the Mocs.
Chattanooga’s Morgan Romano led the team with 12 kills while Gylian Finch logged a double-double with 10 kills alongside a team-high 14 digs. Chard’e Vanzandt once again led the Mocs in blocks with four while Elaine Redman led UTC with 25 assists.
The Mocs will now take their talents on the road with three away matchups waiting for UTC over the next week and a half. Chattanooga will open their road spell first at ETSU (0-12, 0-1 SoCon), with the Mocs and Buccaneers set to battle in Johnson City on September 29. The Mocs then head to Greensboro for a match against UNCG (1-11, 0-1 SoCon) on September 30 before closing out the road trip on October 3 with one last non-conference match against Alabama A&M (1-14, 0-2 SWAC). The next home match for the Mocs will be Friday, October 6 against Furman (10-2, 1-0 SoCon).
