The Covenant College women's soccer team traveled to Berry looking for its second consecutive win after beating Asbury on Saturday. The Scots were outmatched by the Vikings, as they fell 2-0.
Lila Wiley had the Scots' first shot on goal in the fifth minute as her shot to the bottom right of the goal was saved. After Lucy Sandhoff made a save in the 28th minute, the Vikings had back-to-back corner kicks, but could not get the ball in the net. Minutes before halftime, Maeve McDougal scored a penalty kick for Berry after Covenant had a handball in the box.
At the half, Berry had outshot Covenant 9-2.
The Vikings had two shots in the first seven minutes of the second half, as one was saved by Sandhoff and the other missed high. Rachel Wall had a look on goal in the 62nd minute that was saved by the Berry goalie. In the 80th minute, Covenant had its best look of the second half as Leah Marr's shot across goal just missed to the right.
Berry added a second goal in the 85th minute off the foot of Mia Ries after a Covenant turnover.
A few minutes later, the Vikings threatened to score a third goal as a shot hit the crossbar.
Covenant drops to 5-18-2 all-time against Berry. The Vikings had 15 shots while Covenant had seven. Corner kicks and fouls were 4-3 in favor of Berry.
Covenant hosts Belhaven on Saturday for Homecoming at 5 p.m.
