Cleveland State golf opened their season with a strong showing at the Cherokee Ridge Country Club in the Chuck Kalanick Memorial at Snead State in Union Grove, Alabama this week.

The Cougars placed 11th overall out of the 17 schools that participated.

"It was a very respectful showing for our team," head coach Shannon Skipper said. "We were the only D2 school team there as all the other teams were D1. Our young men represented our school with pride and played like true gentlemen."

Sophomore Reece McFatter led the Cougars finishing 15 over par and 21st overall out of the field of 90 players.  His second round score of 74 was the best of the tournament for Cleveland State.

Cougars sophomore Owen Kreuger wasn't far behind going a combined 20 over par and finishing strong in his final round with 74 strokes.

In their first collegiate action each Cleveland State freshman finished well ahead of the bottom of the pack of division one players with Andrew McCarver shooting +31, Kadyn Copeland +36 and Logan Gadd +39.

"I am very proud of these guys and we will continue to work hard as we prepare for our next tournament," Skipper said.

The Cougars will be back in action from October 8-10 in the Walters State Fall Classic in Morristown, TN.
