Dalton State has officially announced Joshua Goebel as the new head coach of the women's soccer program. Goebel becomes the first women's-only head coach in program history and steps into the role with a distinguished coaching background, having worked at multiple levels, including national, collegiate, high school, and club soccer.
"I'm thrilled to join Dalton State and lead the women's soccer program," Goebel said.
'I'm looking forward to taking the women's program to new heights!"
Goebel most recently served as an assistant coach for a nationally ranked Life (Ga.) program, where he played a key role in their historic 2024 season.
Under his leadership, the team achieved its most regular-season wins in program history with 13, reached a program-high national ranking of #6, and significantly improved both offensive and defensive metrics. He initiated recruiting efforts in Metro Atlanta, scouted opponents, developed team tactics, and oversaw technical training and in-game coaching.
Prior to his collegiate coaching career, Goebel spent several years building powerhouse high school and club programs. As the head coach at Chamblee High School in Atlanta, he led the team to the 2023 Georgia 5A State Championship with a near-perfect 21-0-1 record, earning a MaxPreps #1 national ranking. His tenure saw remarkable offensive and defensive improvements and cultivated top-tier talent, including players who went on to compete for NCAA Division I programs and even represent the Jamaican National Team in the 2023 Women's World Cup.
Goebel's club soccer experience includes coaching multiple teams at Inter Atlanta FC, where he transformed underperforming squads into championship contenders. His teams consistently improved their goal differential and reached new competitive milestones, including a regional tournament appearance and an undefeated season.
In addition to his soccer coaching experience, Goebel also contributed to collegiate athletics as an assistant coach for the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) cross country and track teams, where he helped lead championship-winning squads and recruited elite-level athletes.
A former collegiate athlete himself, Goebel played four seasons at Point University, where he demonstrated leadership and commitment across 70 games. He holds coaching diplomas from United Soccer Coaches, including a National Diploma with the highest rating, a Level 6 Diploma, and a Goalkeeper Level 1 Coaching Diploma.
Goebel ended by saying, "I want to express my thanks to Ben Rickett and the search committee for believing in me. We're going to build a winning culture with a professional atmosphere that pushes our players to grow every day. I'm excited to work with this fantastic group of young athletes and to build a program filled with belief and confidence on and off the field! BEEPBEEP!"
