Whitfield County and NWGCCA staff pictured with compass students
Culinary students from the Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy were responsible for preparing lunch on Monday for the citizens of Whitfield County who were called for jury duty.
This summer, officials met to discuss improvements to the juror experience. Citizens receive $25/day when summoned, but are not provided with lunch. County Administrator Bob Sivick, Chief Judge Cindy Morris, Clerk of Superior Court Babs Bailey and Superior Court Administrator Brad Butler reached out to David Moeller, CEO of the NWGCCA, in hopes of another partnership.
“I met with my chef, Marney Lenahan, and asked what her capacity would be, and she advised it would not be an issue at all,” said Mr.
Moeller. “We decided that our culinary kids would prepare all of the lunches, and our Compass Academy will travel to the courthouse to set it up for the jurors.”
The students in the culinary program of the NWGCCA created a menu that consisted of a chicken and pasta salad, chips and a cookie, with vegan and gluten free options. “They were very proud to be doing this,” said Chef Lenahan. “And they were very excited to have an actual catering assignment.”
Chef Lenahan has been employed with the NWGCCA for eight years, and finds it the most rewarding career she has had.
"Whitfield County is excited to have added another partnership with the NWGCCA, and are looking forward to more to come," officials said. "We’d also like to extend a thank you to the students in the
culinary program for their commitment to serving the community."
