UTC, Boyd Wins Live In Lou Cross Country Classic

Chattanooga’s Lesley Green Boyd outraced the competition Saturday morning at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic and led the Mocs to a first place finish in the Blue Division at the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Race Course. The Men, led by Aaron Isbell finished 12th overall. 

Boyd hung back early, but soon took the lead and won the women’s 5-kilometer race with a personal best time of 17:27.4, more than 16 seconds ahead of her nearest competition. The time was nearly 36 seconds better than her previous top time set in 2021 at the North Alabama Showcase. 

Sophomore Maddie Wheatcroft was the second Chattanooga runner across the line finishing seventh overall with a time of 18:11.0, a PR by more than seven seconds.
She edged out Western Carolina’s top runner by 0.6 seconds. 

Kathryn Vradenburgh placed 13th for the Mocs followed by Emma Russum in 17th. Vrandenburgh finished with a time of 18:22.4 and Russum covered the distance in a time of 18:25.6. Lead Boyd was the final scoring runner for the Mocs finishing 61st with a time of 19:07.7.  

In the men’s race, junior Aaron Isbell led the Mocs to a 12th place finish, one point behind Southern Conference foe Western Carolina. Isbell covered the 8-kilometer distance in a time of 25:10.0. Freshman Jack Martin was not far behind placing 21st with a time of 25:15.1. 

Senior Jasper Wilson was the third Chattanooga runner to finish with a time of 26:21.3 followed by freshman Tristan Gould at 26:22.6 and Caleb Jarrett with a time of 26:28.8. 

The Mocs return to action for the UTC Home Meet on October 13 at Camp Jordan beginning at 9:30 a.m. Admission is free.
