George W. Winters, 71, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on January 2, 2024.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki L. Winters, brothers Richard Winters (Lisa), and John Winters (Scott Thorne), niece Mary Caroline Winters, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William L. Winters and Caroline W. Winters.

George attended Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville, Fl., and graduated from Chattanooga High School and from the University of Chattanooga at Tennessee where he was a brother in the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

George, an accredited public relations and marketing professional, retired from BellSouth and continued to excel in his career of over 35 years, which included public and media relations and corporate development. He received numerous awards from the Public Relations Council of Alabama including Public Relations Practitioner of the Year, Philip R. Forest Professional Achievement medallion, and the Grover Smith Lifetime Achievement Award.

George was a welcoming person to everyone he met, and he had a charisma that was infectious. George was always going the extra mile for his friends. He enjoyed fostering relationships, and he provided leadership to many community groups including The Schools Foundation, Madison County and Shoals United Way, Huntsville Hospital Foundation, Huntsville / Madison County Chamber of Commerce, SCORE, and Huntsville Rotary Club. George provided public relations counsel to numerous other not-for-profit corporations. He also enjoyed mentoring people in the public relations field and young business men and women in the Huntsville area. In his spare time, George loved hunting, fishing, and playing golf.

A celebration of life will be held in Huntsville, Al., on Sunday, Jan. 28, from 1-4 p.m. at the Hidden Creek Subdivision Clubhouse, 130 Hidden Creek Dr. in Huntsville.
