In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Rondall Reynoso, assistant professor of art at Lee University, is presenting an art exhibition honoring the memory of his father in the Squires Library Gallery on Lee’s campus.

The exhibition, titled “Layers of Legacy: Chicano Memory from Courtroom to Studio,” centers around the life of Mr. Reynoso’s father, Cruz Reynoso, who was a civil rights activist and the first Latino to serve on the California Supreme Court. The showcase includes four drawings Mr. Reynoso’s father made on the notes he took while listening to the debates in the Supreme Court.

Rondall Reynoso’s own paintings, which were made in response to Cruz Reynoso’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease later in life, are also on display. These paintings are part of a series titled, “In Remembrance,” which explores memory's imperfection, life’s transcendence, and how memory affects individual identity.

“These abstract works negate the colorful initial painting with opaque white layers over most of the surface,” said Rondall Reynoso. “The moments of visible color are connected with thin lines straddling the intersection of rationality and irrationality.”

The exhibition is free and open to the public. It will be available for viewing until Tuesday, Oct. 22, during regular operating hours of the library, which can be found by visiting leeuniversity.libguides.com/homepage.
