The Lee University Lady Flames volleyball team will host the 17th annual Volley for a Cure match as part of Lee’s Homecoming celebrations. This will also serve as the season’s senior night. The team will face off against the University of West Alabama on Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Paul Dana Walker Arena.

The event’s goal is to help raise awareness for breast cancer while raising money to support a student who is a family member of someone impacted by cancer. This year, the proceeds will go to Haley Wooten, a Lee volleyball alumna whose mother recently passed away following a battle with cancer. There will be a presentation honoring Wooten and her family’s story between sets two and three of the game.

"The Volley for a Cure match has always held a special place in my heart,” said Lee volleyball coach Christa Fabre. “It is a longstanding tradition where we get to celebrate survivors, bring awareness, and provide aid to someone who has been impacted by the devastating wave of cancer. This year's recipient is an old teammate of mine and has been hit with so much hardship this past year. We are thankful to be able to help in a small way through the raised funds!"

The volleyball team will sell pink T-shirts for $10 at the event, with 100 percent of the profits going toward Wooten and her family. Shirts can also be purchased in advance from any member of the volleyball team.

A “Pink Party” will be hosted in the lobby of the arena during the game, which will include face painting, games, a photo booth, and other fun activities for participants to show their support.
