In-Town Gallery has announced a new member, David Harris.

Mr. Harris is a potter who specializes in beautiful implements that are intended to be used. His work is a celebration of elegance in everyday objects. Mr. Harris began his career working with clay in 1994 while still teaching high school history. He developed his talents in workshops and with the help of his friend and mentor, Jack Davidson.

A native of Chattanooga, Mr. Harris attended Baylor School and graduated valedictorian of his class. He has a degree from the University of North Carolina in history. David donates 100 percent of his art sales to aid the people of Haiti.

For Mr. Harris, working at the potter’s wheel is an enriching experience. “A piece of clay coming into balance on the wheel just feels good, “ he says. “It relaxes the body and re-centers the mind. When I go into my studio, I like to say I’m going to ‘play in the mud.’”

Showcasing the creativity of local artists for 50 years, In-Town Gallery is located ‘Between the Bridges’ on Chattanooga’s North Shore at 26A Frazier Ave. Monday-Saturday 11-6 p.m. and 12-5 p.m. on Sundays.
