What Happened To Veterans Day In Our Schools? - And Response

  • Monday, November 11, 2024

Why do our public schools (at least in Hamilton County, Tn.) recognize Martin Luther King Day and Juneteenth but not Veterans Day?

It was our Veterans that served and died fighting to free the slaves and many others are still serving to keep them free, all colors including black.

Sorry, Patrick, for the correction, or maybe not. It's a misconception the war between the Union north and confederate south was about freeing the slaves.
The war was to "preserve" the Union. President Lincoln alluded to that fact in many of his speeches. In fact, at the end of the war, only in states that rebelled against the Union were slaves ordered free.

Freeing the slaves, and only then in those Confederate states that rebelled, one might say, was more of a side dish and not on the main menu.

Another misconception is that wars are all about keeping us all "free." But that's another class assignment for another day.
