After battling foul problems, the Lee University women’s basketball team led only 31-23 at halftime but outscored host Shorter University 46-16 in the second half and coasted to a convincing 77-39 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Flames improved to 15-8 overall and 13-6 in the GSC standings.
Mia Hurst paced the Lady Flames scoring with 17 points. She was a perfect 5-of-5 from 3-point range. Mallory Hampton followed with 12 points and five assists. Anna Muhonen added nine points.
Baylee Delbridge and Addison Smith added eight points apiece while Delbridge also pulled down four rebounds. Freshman Keira Leffew dished off six assists to go with her six points.
It was a good shooting day all around for the Lady Flames. They connected on 62% of their shots from the floor (29-of-47) and from 3-point range knocked down 11-of-20 attempts. At the free-throw line, Lee made 8-of-12 attempts. Each team had 16 total rebounds.
On the other side of the ledger, Shorter only had one player reach double-figure scoring. Amya Patterson did her part with 21 points and four rebounds. The Lee defense held the Lady Hawks to 10-of-29 shooting from the field (35%). The home club did make 7-of-16 3-point attempts (44%) and canned 12-of-16 free throws.
The Lady Flames will return to Walker Arena for a key three-game home stand. Mississippi College will be the opponent on Thursday at 5:30. Delta State University will be in town as the Lady Flames celebrate Senior Day next Saturday, while the University of West Georgia will wrap up the home stand the following Wednesday.
