The Cleveland State baseball team will meet Brett Carroll Athletics (BCA) from Knoxville for three double headers this season.
Cleveland State (12-4) swept the first of those double headers with a six-run shutout game one and a 3-1 victory in game two.
Four pitchers combined for the game one shutout allowing two hits, both of those off the winning pitcher, starter Zane Brown (3-0) in his four innings of work where he struck out three and walked one.
Gage Hensley struck out three of the four batters he faced while walking one.
Taylor Vinson went an inning striking out two and walking two while Ben Norton threw the final inning.
Brock Harvey doubled driving home Kain Collins for the game's first run in the bottom of the first. Harvey added another double and two RBI in the bottom of the second in a four-run inning.
Dylan Owens started the scoring in the second singling in Cannon Stafford. Bryson Trammell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home another in the inning. In the bottom of the fourth Owens again singled in Stafford for the game's final run.
In game two the Cougars again used four pitchers with their staff keeping them in the game allowing three hits total.
Austin Miller started going four innings striking out nine allowing no runs on one hit with no walks. Brycen Denton pitched the fifth allowing one earned run on two hits while striking out two and walking none.
Eric Enerlich (2-0) earned the victory allowing no runs or hits striking out one and walking one in his inning of work. Logan Bryson picked up his third save of the season throwing the final inning allowing no runs or hits while striking out two.
BCA scored the game's first run in the top of the fifth. In the bottom half Harrison Garrett scored on a throwing error to tie the game.
Cleveland State took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Ryan Langford singled driving in Ty Nettles. Garrett then singled driving home Langford for an insurance run.
The Cougars start conference play in their next time on the field this Saturday hosting Southwest Tennessee Community College (8-10) in the first two of a three-game series with first pitch scheduled for noon.
Games are played on the Cleveland State campus at the Cougar Baseball Field. Admission charge is $8 per person with no charge to Cleveland State students, faculty and staff.
