Taco Mamacita at Hamilton Place is scheduled to open soon. The owner, Michael Monen, owns seven other restaurants in Chattanooga and three in Nashville that already have beer licenses.
The application for a beer permit at this newest restaurant will be heard at a special called meeting due to the fact that there was not a quorum that could vote on the application Thursday morning.
Decisions made by the beer board must have five votes to pass. There were five members present at today’s meeting, however there was a conflict of interest with one of the board members who was not allowed to vote.
This was the second attempt by Taco Mamacita at Hamiton Place to get a beer permit and the second time that it could not be voted on because of the lack of a quorum. Assistant City Attorney Kathryn McDonald told the applicant that the city is unable to require members to attend meetings since it is an all-volunteer board.
The request from Teneley Brown, representing Mr. Monen, to hold a special meeting was granted so beer can be sold when the restaurant opens. That meeting will be on Friday, March 15, at 9 a.m.
