UTC Men's Tennis Wins 7-0 On Senior Day, Women Lose 4-3

The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team posted a 7-0 shutout over Southern Conference foe UNCG on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon during Senior Day at the UTC Tennis Center on campus.

Following the win in its regular season finale, Chattanooga finishes 9-14 overall and 3-4 inside SoCon play. The Mocs await its final seeding for next weekend's SoCon Tournament held at Champions Club in town. UNCG ends the regular season 6-15 overall and 0-7 in league play.

Chattanooga earned an early 1-0 lead in the match following wins at No.

1 and No. 3 doubles with the latter clinching the team point. Peyton Gatti and Jakub Jupa cruised to a 6-2 win at the top pairing before Ryan Mudre and Jaxon Lamb erased an early deficit, rallying for a 7-6 (8-6) comeback victory.

In singles, Gatti posted the first victory for UTC with a clean 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 before Kristof Kincses made it 3-0 with a similar 6-2, 6-2 win on court No. 5. Jupa continued his stellar freshman campaign and clinched the team's ultimate fourth point with a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 1.

The winning continued for the Mocs in the final three matches of the day as Mudre earned the fifth team point with a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 4 before Cortland Grove made it 6-0 with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-3 winner at No. 3. Gabriel Castillo capped off the shutout with a 7-5, 2-6, 10-6 super tie-break victory in the No. 2 hole.

Chattanooga will await its final seeding ahead of next weekend's Southern Conference Championships held Thursday, April 18 through Saturday, April 20, at Champions Club in the Rivermont area of town.  The Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis team wrapped up regular season action with a narrow 4-3 defeat to Southern Conference opponent Mercer on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the UTC Tennis Center on campus.
 
Following the defeat, Chattanooga ends the regular season with an 8-13 overall mark and a 1-6 tally inside league play. The Mocs will claim the No. 6 seed in next weekend's SoCon Tournament and will face No. 3 Wofford at 10:30 a.m. ET on Thursday.
 
In doubles, Chattanooga claimed an early 1-0 lead behind a thrilling 7-6 (7-3) clinching-victory from the No. 1 duo of Rozalie Dohnalova and Alice Hall. The win followed an impressive 6-3 victory from the No. 3 tandem of freshmen Emma Pedretti and Margaret Manolache.
 
The Mocs extended its team lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 7-5 victory from Hall at the No. 4 singles position. Mercer countered with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 to allow the visitors to pull within one, 2-1, with four matches remaining.
 
The Bears jumped ahead in the team tally with consecutive victories, claiming a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 comeback win at No. 3 before another rally at No. 6 with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 decision. The visitors earned the ultimate fourth point with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5 before Dohnalova closed out the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 marathon at the top spot.
 
Chattanooga will enter the SoCon Tournament next week at nearby Champions Club as the No. 6 seed and will face the Terriers of Wofford at 10:30 a.m. ET on Thursday. For complete championship information including brackets, results and more, please visit the link HERE.
