Dennis E. “Denny” Hixon, 81, of Fort Oglethorpe went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 6, 2024.

He was born in South Charleston, West Virginia to parents Ward and Mary Hixon. Denny was raised in the North Georgia area and graduated from Lakeview High School. Denny also served his country proudly in the United States Air Force and serving during the Vietnam War.

Denny worked and retired from U.S. Pipe. He was a member of the American Legion Battlefield Post 214. During his youth, Denny attended a revival at Shiloh Baptist Church in West Armuchee and was baptized. He enjoyed fishing, camping and enjoyed vacations with his family and grandchildren who called him “PawPaw”. Denny was known for “swapping and trading” just about anything. He also enjoyed collecting antique cars and tinkering with things needing fixing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ward and Mary Hixon; and his sister, Shirley Gilreath.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Carol (Alfred) Strickland, Nacrina (David) Castro, and Denise Crowder; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way; a brother, James Lamar Hixon; mother of his children, Genitha Hixon; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks for all the care and love given to Denny during his time at Parkside Nursing Home and also to Hearth Hospice.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery, Chattanooga, TN. with Pastor Chuck Romain officiating.

All arrangements have been made by Lane Funeral Home and Crematory South Crest Chapel in Rossville, GA.
