“Hap” Alford Taft Chastain

“Hap” Alford Taft Chastain, 86, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

He was the son of the late Calvin Taft Chastain and Roxie Josephine Maples Chastain. Hap worked for Eagle Mechanical for 17 years as a sheet metal worker.

He was preceded in death by his son, Eddie Chastain and a brother, J.P. Chastain.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Melba Welch Chastain; children, “Rudy” Rob (Carolyn) Chastain, Lynn (Kathy) Chastain and Tammy (Christopher) Byerley; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Russell (Joan) Chastain.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Steve Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Ooltewah Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Lakeway Baptist Church, 8727 Highway 58, Harrison, Tn. 37341.
