The Chattanooga Mocs men’s tennis program and head coach Chuck Merzbacher have announced the addition of Matej Laibl, an International prospect out of Prague, Czech Republic, to its upcoming 2024-25 roster.
Laibl will transfer to Chattanooga from Prague University of Economics and Business where he competed in the Czech collegiate ranks last year. Liable graduated from the scholastic ranks among the class of 2022.
“We are excited to announce the signing of Matej Laibl from Prague, Czech Republic as he will join the Mocs this Fall,” said head coach Chuck Merzbacher.
“Matej has had a strong summer of play, and he bolsters a high junior ranking of 33, and a high of 61 among all men in the Czech Republic.
As the world knows, the Czech Republic has been quite strong in tennis and his competitive background will provide him with a solid base for Division I tennis.”
It’s no secret of the tennis success that Czech Republic has produced on an International scale, even solidifying its presence right here at UTC. Jakub Jupa, a Kladno, Czech Republic native, dazzled in his rookie season last year with the Mocs while claiming the Southern Conference’s Freshman of the Year honor in the process.
The recipe of on-court success and skills, efforts inside the classroom, and prior collegiate experience makes Laibl an excellent fit and addition to the Chattanooga program.
“Besides being a fine tennis player, Matej has done very well in the classroom, and he will be transferring from the Prague University of Economics and Business,” Merzbacher added.
“I believe with the addition of Matej, and a returning group with plenty of experience, we will have the opportunity to accomplish special things this upcoming year. I look forward to working with him and his contributions to an already-deep team.”
