Just because someone has an “R” or a “D” beside their name doesn’t necessarily make them a Republican or a Democrat. I’ve recently discovered this with the current District 27 State Rep. Patsy Hazelwood. Like many of you, I voted for Patsy in every election cycle because she had that “R” beside her name, not to mention she was the only person on the ballot to choose from. Well, this year that has changed.
I believe politicians don’t expect their constituents to actually pay attention to how their representative votes on bills. Their mindset is “as long as they have the “R” or “D” beside their name, they will get the votes needed from whichever party they claim they represent”. Not only does Rep. Hazelwood have some competition this voting cycle from Republican, Michele Reneau, but I discovered that Patsy’s voting record does not fall in line with the conservative beliefs that I have, or that she claims to have. After receiving several mailers from Patsy’s campaign, like many of you in District 27, I decided to look for myself to see if Patsy actually votes as she claims in her mailers.
Patsy would have you believe that she is tough on illegal immigration but in fact she voted against legislation to prohibit state/local governments from adopting sanctuary policies (HB2315/SB2332). She voted to award in-state college tuition to illegal immigrant students in Tennessee (HB0675/SB0612). This certainly doesn’t back up her claim that she is tough on illegal immigration.
As a conservative, you would think that Patsy would be pro-life. Yet she abstained from voting on pro-life bills to protect babies in Tennessee, such as the Tennessee Infants Protection Act (HB1189/SB1180), the Human Life Protection Act (HB1029/SB1257), the Tennessee Heartbeat Bill (HB2263/SB2196), and the Chemical Abortion Reversal Info Bill (HB2568/SB2465). Again, this sure doesn’t sound like a conservative.
Another topic where Patsy scores very low is the 2nd Amendment. Patsy voted against the Tennessee Constitutional Carry Law (HB0786/SB0765), as well as the House Joint Resolution to prevent Federal Government Infringement of 2nd Amendment rights (HJR0748). Votes don’t lie. Look them up.
I, along with many others, have come to the conclusion that we will not be voting for Patsy Hazelwood any longer. She does not truly represent conservative values in Tennessee. We don’t need someone masquerading as a conservative for us in Nashville.
We need a true conservative representing District 27 and I believe that Michele Reneau is that true conservative. Michele’s campaign signs state: Defending Faith, Family, Freedom. After listening to Michele, it’s been easy to see those three things are very close to her heart. I have no doubt she will defend them to the upmost. I’ve learned that she truly cares about others, is a hard worker, and is very passionate about the people and their issues in District 27.
We already have too many career politicians in Washington, we sure don’t need them in Tennessee.
