Ringgold resident Shirley Bryson, an accomplished author, has released her fourth book, “The Little White Bunny Gets a Name,” a children’s book with important lessons for adults.

Based on true events from 1993, the story highlights themes of love, loss, grief, recovery and the importance of persistence and loyalty.

The book, Ms. Bryson said, “is based on a true story about a little white bunny my husband, Ronnie, and I had.”
The book has an overarching theme about persistence and loyalty: never give up on someone, including an animal, you love.

Ms.
Bryson wrote the book shortly after some of the events in it occurred in 1993 (not the whole book is true), but she didn’t publish it until May of this year.

Instead, Ms. Bryson first published three other books:
- “Jericho Rose” (2003): A grief recovery book reflecting on the loss of Ms. Bryson’s mother, including memories, reflections and poems.
- “The Little White Bunny” (2022): A precursor to the 1993 bunny story.
- “Love: The Fuel that Runs a Marriage” (2023): A collection of thoughts, advice, stories and poems about maintaining a successful marriage.

The little white bunny, Ms. Bryson said, was a rabbit she had bought for her daughters one Easter. The family already had a dog named Butterfly, and the two animals became fast friends, even playing together in the 17-inch snow the area got in 1993.

When Butterfly died, the bunny became depressed. Thanks to the love and commitment of Ms. Bryson and her husband, the bunny regained its love of life — but it took some work on the part of the bunny’s humans.

Ms. Bryson’s talents extend beyond writing. She is an artist, seamstress and cook. She has taught yoga and done inspirational speaking. She co-hosted a TV program called “Your Terrific Temperament.” Most recently, she and her husband have taken up pickle ball. Above all, Ms. Bryson says, she is a wife, a mother, a grandmother and a Christian.

Books are available at amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.
