District 27 Was The Race To Watch

  • Friday, August 2, 2024

What a win for Michele Reneau. The District 27 Republican primary was the horse race to watch.

It was Ms. Reneau verses the collective of political incumbents with their donors in tow. Ms. Reneau and her supporters did a fantastic grass root campaign. I bet they are exhausted.

A campaign where hard work trumps power with buckets of cash is exciting to watch.

I have never met Ms. Reneau, but read a lot and had a mailbox chronically filled with mailers that had the photoshopped mother of five wearing a tin foil hat. What childish nonsense was that?

It is hard to fathom the amount of money that went to this level of creativity. I can hear it now, “look, we put a tin foil hat on Ms. Reneau, that will be $50,000.”

That mailer was certainly helpful to  Ms. Reneau and harmful to the intended benefactor.

The local political class of office holders objected too often and too loudly in favor of the incumbent. It literally rained endless office holder endorsements in favor of the incumbent. As they say, when a candidate gets big endorsements from the political class, they also get their enemies. Never truer in this race.

Y’all, these elected offices are not lifetime appointments. Serve the people and move on.  The founders of our nation never intended for there to be kings for life.

I remember when elected offices did not have retirement benefits. The entire concept of paying elected retirement benefits is contrary to the best interest of people, as elected are not supposed to retire from office. Elected office is temporary public service by design. It is the elected that enriched elected office with benefits for life.

The Hamilton County delegation will be fine with a new face to learn the ropes.
