Peggie Norman Kilpatrick
Peggie Norman Kilpatrick, 78, of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at her residence.
She was born on Oct. 6, 1945, in Chattanooga, to Homer and Flora Mae (Hinton) Norman. She was a class of 1963 graduate of Howard High School. Peggie was married for 44 years to John Kilpatrick, Sr. and had two children, John Jr. and Kinsley Kinte. She was a proud member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where Rev. A.J. Holman is pastor. Peggie was on the Stewardess Board and worked with the Youth Department. She worked for the City of Chattanooga as a data processor for 39 years. Upon retirement, Peggie became heavily involved in her community. She helped create and was the inaugural president of the Bushtown Neighborhood Association. Her efforts brought about positive change not only in Bushtown, but Highland Park, Orchard Park, and surrounding communities. The way she structured and organized BNA became the blueprint for neighborhood associations in Chattanooga. Peggie was also an active board member of the Chattanooga Community Housing Development Organization (CCHDO) as well as Community Impact. Her fingerprint will forever be on the community organizations in Chattanooga.
Peggie is survived by her children, John Kilpatrick, Jr. and Kinsley Kinte (Tracie) Kilpatrick. She has four living siblings, Stormy Norman, Billy Norman, Jackie White, and Virgil Norman. She has 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Peggie will lie in state on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m. at Bethel A.M.E. Church.
Funeral services will follow at noon at the church with Pastor A. J. Holman as the eulogist.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
