Stefan Seemungal, MD, a non-invasive cardiologist with a passion for helping others, has joined Hamilton Physician Group - Cardiology in Dalton.

Dr. Seemungal focuses on preventing and treating a broad spectrum of cardiovascular disease, including hypertension, systolic and diastolic congestive heart failure, arrhythmia, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, post-myocardial infarction care and more.

“My favorite part about being a cardiologist is seeing the joy that comes to the faces of patients and their families when they are able to understand their cardiac condition, formulate a treatment plan with them as the most important member of the healthcare team and realize improvement,” he said.

Originally interested in paleontology, Dr.
Seemungal turned his attention toward medicine after his best friend’s father died from cancer.

“I wanted to be able to help people and their families through these difficult times,” he said.

Dr. Seemungal left his home country of Trinidad and Tobago at age 17 to pursue his medical degree at St. George’s University, Grenada, West Indies. After three years on the island, he moved to Brooklyn, NY., where he spent two years in various clinical rotations, four years as an internal medicine resident, including two as chief resident. He also completed a three-year cardiology fellowship, including serving as chief fellow of his program during his last year at Coney Island Hospital.

“For me, the defining trait that distinguishes an excellent physician from the rest is a relentless and steadfast dedication towards patient care, comfort and education above all else,” he said.

When he isn’t at work, Dr. Seemungal enjoys cooking, fishing, swimming, hiking, watching movies and spending time with his four-year-old son.
