As the Junior League of Chattanooga concludes its year, the organization celebrates its accomplishments in 2024 and sets its sights on even greater strides in 2025. Under the leadership of President Melissa Loper, the JLC has continued to foster leadership, support education, and create meaningful partnerships that have touched countless lives across Chattanooga, said officials.
“It has been an honor to serve as president this year and to witness the passion, commitment, and leadership within the Junior League of Chattanooga,” said Ms. Loper. “From advancing literacy and supporting teachers to fostering partnerships with local nonprofits, our members have made a lasting impact on our community. I am inspired by the incredible work we’ve accomplished in 2024 and am excited for the opportunities ahead in 2025.”
In 2024, the Junior League of Chattanooga partnered with eight local organizations to advance its mission of empowering women and building a stronger community. Highlights of the year included:
Advancing Literacy: JLC continued its dedication to literacy through its support of Signal Centers’ Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and by maintaining Free Little Libraries throughout Chattanooga.
Empowering Teachers and Students: Through its partnership with Hamico, JLC awarded $20,000 in mini-grants to 29 teachers across 21 Hamilton County schools. Additionally, JLC strengthened its collaboration with the Hamilton County Teacher Supply Hub by collecting critical donations at every General Membership Meeting. These efforts earned JLC a prestigious nomination as a Partner in Education by Hamilton County Schools.
Touch-A-Truck Success: The annual Touch-A-Truck event at Warner Park was a record-breaking achievement, featuring 28 trucks, 22 local businesses, and over 2,000 attendees. With $11,000 raised in ticket sales and $29,000 in sponsorships, the event exceeded all expectations, furthering JLC’s ability to support community partners and their initiatives.
Expanding Presence and Partnerships: JLC’s commitment to building connections was evident through its support of nonprofit events, including Voices benefiting The Women’s Fund, Women of Distinction benefiting Signal Centers’ Imagination Library, and YMCA Plate It Forward. These efforts strengthened JLC’s role as a leader in fostering meaningful change, said officials.
The Junior League of Chattanooga celebrated the contributions of its members at this year’s Sustainer Luncheon, honoring the legacy of service and leadership within the organization. A highlight of the event was the recognition of Nicole Watson as the 2024 Elise Chapman Moon recipient. Ms. Watson’s dedication to the League’s mission, her leadership and her commitment to empowering women and strengthening the community embody the very spirit of JLC.
Looking forward, JLC is poised for an exciting year, including the Second Annual Tour du Jour Home Tour on April 26. This spring, JLC will continue its collaborations with community partners, nurture leadership within the League, and further its mission of building a better Chattanooga.
