35 Mocs Named Academic All-Southern Conference

Thirty-Five Chattanooga Mocs were named Academic All-Southern Conference by the league office in an announcement Thursday afternoon. The list comes from the fall sports with cross country, football, soccer and volleyball represented.

The list included eight football student-athletes, 13 cross country (eight women/five men), nine from soccer and five from volleyball. There were six 4.0 students in the mix:

Nicole Solete, Soccer (Exercise Science)
Lesley Green-Boyd, Cross Country (MBA)
Brooke Tyll, Cross Country (Marketing)
Chase Artopoeus, Football (Masters-Psychology)
Reid Williams, Football (MBA)
Kobe Joseph, Football (MBA))

To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average at the conclusion of the fall semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams’ competitions during the recently concluded campaign.
In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion. There 427 honorees from the conference’s 10 institutions covering

The news comes on the heels of GoMocs.com’s announcement of another strong academic semester for the department as a whole. More than 80 percent of the 300+ student-athletes registered 3.0 GPA’s or better during the fall term. Check out the full story here.

The Mocs are honoring the group tonight (Jan. 23) at halftime of the men’s basketball matchup with Samford. Game time is 7 p.m., with tickets available here. The Dayle May Award winners will be honored as well. That goes to the top graduating GPA with a male and female winner. This year’s honorees are Lexi Foley (cross country) and Landon Lewis (wrestling).
