Nancy Caroline King Coddington, whose vibrant life and unwavering faith touched the lives of everyone she met, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, just a few days shy of her 93rd birthday. She has now joined her heavenly Father and Savior in eternal bliss. Although her earthly journey is over, her Christ-centered life continues to have a profound impact on countless lives. All praise be to God!

Nancy Coddington, known as Nan by her friends and family, was born and raised in Indianapolis, In. She worked as a medical secretary for the chief nurses’ office at the Veterans Administration Hospital and later became secretary to the personnel director. It was while she was at the VA Hospital that she met Dr. Robert C. Coddington, a young medical student she later married. She was the epitome of the saying, “Behind every great man stands a great woman,” as she was his steadfast partner, encouraging teammate and accomplished hostess. She was a member of the Hamilton County Medical Auxiliary which supported physicians in the area including a tenure as president.

She and her husband were blessed with three children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her favorite observation of them: “All are smart, the boys handsome and the girls beautiful.”

Always an active and adventurous person, Nan became a pilot in her 60s, skied the Swiss Alps in her 70s and wrote her first book, Love Came Near in her 80s. She also wrote and published several inspirational devotionals and edited many other religious literary works. She was actively involved at her church serving in multiple capacities including President of Women in the Church at First Presbyterian Church, Missions Ministry board member, evangelical outreach ministry and faithfully participated in Bible study and Sunday School.

Mrs. Coddington was preceded in death by an infant son, her parents, Marion and Dorothy (Vansickle) King and her siblings, Andy, Varse, Annabelle and Don and their spouses.

She is survived by her daughters, Kitty Fowler (Bill), Lisa Duncan (Dan) and son, Chuck Coddington (Robyn). Her grandchildren are Perry Duncan, Megan Norman (Danny), Blake Coddington, Kathryn Duncan (Dave Bliss), Ian McGowan and Parker Judd (Ryane). Her great-grandchildren are Ella and Graham Norman and Bo Judd. She also leaves many cherished friends and nieces and nephews.

Due to inclement weather on Friday, Jan. 10, and in an abundance of caution for those attending the service for Nancy Caroline Coddington, it has been rescheduled. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 12, at Hamilton Funeral Home from 1-3 p.m. with chapel services immediately following. She will be laid to rest on Monday, Jan. 13, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hamilton Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343, 423 531-3975.
