The public is invited to attend a DAR America 250! Marker dedication at Ross’ Landing on the corner of Chestnut Street and Riverfront Parkway on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The America 250 Marker Dedication is a significant initiative as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, celebrating the country's rich history and cultural heritage.
This effort involves installing historical markers across locations to commemorate pivotal moments, influential figures, and significant sites that have shaped the nation's journey. These markers serve as a testament to the diverse narratives that make up the American story, encouraging reflection and appreciation of the past. They aim to engage communities, promote historical education, and inspire a collective understanding of America's complex legacy. As the dedication of these markers progresses, it invites citizens to connect with their history, fostering a sense of unity and pride in the nation's achievements and ongoing aspirations, said officials.
Within Chattanooga, there are five DAR chapters, each with its unique focus and activities. These chapters work to honor their ancestors' legacy by engaging in community service projects, supporting veterans and participating in educational initiatives. Through their collective efforts, the Chattanooga DAR chapters contribute to preserving the cultural and historical fabric of their community.
This marker was made possible by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, America 250! Celebration Grants, the city of Chattanooga and Mayor Tim Kelly. The Chattanooga DAR Regent Council would like to extend a special thank you to the Chattanooga Parks and Outdoor Department, Chattanooga America 250! Commission and the John Sevier Chapter, SAR.
