Daniel “Dan” Diener, of East Ridge, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, to Margaret and Clarence Diener, Dan was the second of four children. He attended Corpus Christi Elementary and graduated from Coronal White High School. Upon graduating High School, Dan entered the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served four years stationed in Hawaii, Okinawa and Viet Nam. Dan was honorably discharged in 1972 upon completion of service.

Following his time in the service, Dan received a Bachelor of Science from The University of Dayton where he went on to pursue a career in accounting.

At a New Year's Eve party in 1975 Dan met the love of his life, Virginia Sue Reed. They married six months later and created a beautiful loving marriage for the next 49 years. They had one son together, Nathan William Diener, who he adored and was immensely proud of.

Dan served as a member of the American Legion Post 95, providing ongoing support as an honor guard for the Veteran community in Chattanooga. Ongoing services and participation with the military community was a priority for Dan and something that he honored and took great pride in.

Dan was a great lover of music, attending numerous festivals and events with his son Nathan and many friends. He was an avid runner and an enthusiastic sports fan. He particularly loved watching the Cleveland Browns and The University of Kentucky play football, going to Nascar races and the Indy 500, and supporting the Cincinnati Reds Baseball and his local team the Chattanooga Lookouts.

Dan was adored and respected by many and his gentle, kind spirit will live on through those who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Diener, his mother, Margaret Diener, his youngest sister, Rita Christa, and his brother-in-law, Jeff Reed.

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Sue Diener of 49 years, his son, Nathan William Diener (Kathryn R. Vinson), his brother, Clete Diener, sister Ellen Diener, sisters-in-law, Joyce Lewis, Linda Reed and Beth Staffford, his nephew, Chad Stafford (Hannah Stafford), his niece, Elayna Stafford, and many cousins and extended family.
