The Collegiate Conference of the South released Yearly Award winners and All-Conference teams on Tuesday night and Covenant men's basketball with Pierce Smith and Logan Patterson among the honorees. Both players are receiving All-Conference recognition for the first time in their careers.

Smith, a sophomore forward, was named Defensive Player of the Year and Second Team All-CCS. Patterson, a junior guard from Section, Alabama, earned First Team All-CCS honors.

With 78 blocks and 3.3 blocks per game, both of which lead the CCS and rank third in NCAA Division III, Smith was a worthy recipient of Defensive Player of the Year.
Earlier this season, he broke the school record for most blocks in a single season.

Offensively, Smith is averaging 10.8 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game. The Winder, Georgia native has also posted six double-doubles this season. This includes an 18 points and 10 rebounds performance in a win over LaGrange where subsequently he was named CCS Player of the Week a few days afterwards.

In his first season with Covenant after transferring from Maryville, Patterson has been a key player, averaging 14.8 points per game, which leads the team. Furthermore, Patterson has been lethal shooting 3-pointers, with 59 made shots from deep, which ranks second in the CCS.

The Section, Alabama native has scored 20 or more points in six games, including a career-high 25 points at Welch. Some of Patterson's other stats include 63 rebounds, 31 assists, and 24 steals for the year.

Freshman Cole Carroll was Covenant's representative on the CCS All-Sportsmanship Team.

Smith and Patterson will look to lead Covenant into a deep postseason run as it begins the CCS Tournament tonight at Asbury.
