The Lee University softball fell in extra innings to Christian Brothers University. The Lady Flames fell 2-1 to CBU in eight innings. Both teams scored a run in the first inning and then another run was not scored until the bottom of the eighth. With the loss, Lee fell to 16-13 overall and 4-11 in GSC play.
Alexa Scalzo and Ana Macha were each walked to start the game. Javaria Smith then hit a single up the middle to score Scalzo. Rylie Goodridge was then walked to load the bases.
Alyson Jarvi then hit a ground ball and CBU turned a double play to keep a run off the board. Bella Galloway then grounded out to end the threat in the first. CBU tied the game in the bottom of the first using two hits to score a run.
Neither team threatened again until the top of the fifth. Lee loaded the bases with Scalzo, Macha, and Smith with three singles but the bases were left loaded. CBU got a base runner to third in the bottom of the fifth but she was stranded as well. CBU threatened again in the bottom of the seventh, but Scalzo turned a double play to force extra innings.
In the eighth, Hailey Simco hit a double off the wall with two outs, bur was left there. CBU won the game in the bottom of the eighth. The Lady Bucs loaded the bases with one out and the winning run came when Haley Alberson hit the ball in-between Scalzo’s legs at shortstop.
Javaria Smith was 4-for-4 from the plate. She had the lone RBI for Lee in the loss. Scalzo scored the lone run in the first. Lee had eight hits while CBU had seven hits.
Gabby Dickerson earned the win for CBU. In eight innings she struck out seven batters. Natalie Pruitt-Geesey struck out five while giving up two runs on seven hits.
The Lady Flames will play a double header to wrap up the series on Saturday, March 22 beginning at 1 PM.
