The Covenant softball team faced a tall challenge on Saturday, traveling to No. 14 Belhaven who finished runner-up in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2024. The Scots competed better with the Blazers than they did a season ago, but dropped both games by eight runs.
Game 1 Final: Covenant 1, No. 14 Belhaven 9
An infield error by the Scots in the second inning gifted the Blazers two runs.
Belhaven added another run in the third inning via an RBI single up the middle.
In the fifth inning, the Blazers made it 4-0, using an RBI double down the right-field line.
Helena Nagy drove in Covenant's lone run in the sixth inning with an RBI single down the right-field line. Five runs for Belhaven, highlighted by a grand slam made it 9-1 in the sixth inning, ending the game by mercy rule.
Lauren Edgar was in the circle for the Scots where she gave up seven earned runs. Cailey Barnett, Olivia Stefl, and Nagy each had one hit for Covenant. Belhaven outhit Covenant 12-3.
Game 2 Final: Covenant 0, No. 14 Belhaven 8
The Blazers went ahead 2-0 in the first inning with a pair of RBI doubles. In the third and fourth innings, Belhaven scored one run using RBI singles. .The game ended in the fifth inning as Belhaven scored four runs to put the score at 8-0 for another mercy rule.
Covenant moves to 0-6 all-time against Belhaven.
Charley Clark pitched for the Scots allowing five earned runs.
Nagy and Lexi Tincknell had Covenant's lone two hits.
